“Just write something. Anything, really” is probably the best advice anyone can give you on writing your first post, to your first blog. After having a little creative session with myself, in which I seemed to ponder forever on the title of this post, I settled on the aforementioned title. “Hello world”, just seemed too careless. Hello world in 10 languages? (bonjour le monde! Hola mundo! etc), mmm nice, but just nice. “I know, I know!… OPUS PRIMUS!”, yeah right! “who does this guy think he is?” it just seemed a bit too pompous! Hocus pocus? Senseless. Although getting this first post on the air, seemed like magic. So I finally settled on
Blogus Primus. Not too grand, with a grain of funny salt! (so if you are still reading, I hope you do not think this is a BOGUS primus!) Enough about the title. What is this this Blog about? Many things. What is this post about? One thing. How to start blogging. More precisely, I realized blogging is a journey, not a destination, so hopefully I will take you along the pains and glories of starting your bloglife.
CHAPTER 1: The road to Blogville. Like many things in life, there is the easy way and then there is the harder, more rewarding way. Quick answer to start blogging: If you are on a hurry to place your first blog post online, rush over to any one of the online blogging services, setup an account, type “Hello world”, tell us about your cat, and voilĂ ! you are an official blogtizen (citizen of blogville). The online services I used to set my first blog where www.blogger.com (from the google guys) and www.wordpress.com (from the wordpress guys) blogger seemed simpler, wordpress seemed more robust and flexible. I tried them both, settled for none. (I know, I am being really helpful aren’t I?) My opinion is some of you that want to get right down to business and start blogging, do not care much about having too much flexibility, and generally want to get off to a fast start, go with blogger (www.blogger.com) if you want a little bit more control over how your blog looks, some more “techie” options, go with www.wordpress.com You can’t go wrong with either. I guess any of those services could be considered a supersonic trip to your blog, is really fast and easy. I went the total opossite way. I almost went on foot. Seriously, sometimes I thought I was riding a snail. But a slower trip lets you enjoy the scenery more and also you visit more places and learn lots of cool stuff along the way. And that is just right up my alley. What road did I take, you ask? I decided to host my own blog, set up my own blogging system and have total and complete blog control. Total Blog Domination! The trials, errors, adventures, and the final reward of seeing THIS POST online, will the subject of my subsequent posts. I got it aaaaall thought out: I will write about the FOUR RIGHT STUFFS you need to set up a totally-owned-and-controlled-by-you-blog. To pick your interest: there is The Pretty Stuff, The Techie Stuff, The Marketing Stuff, and the Writing Stuff. Just like your four basic food groups. See you on the road, the recipes are coming. BLOGUS PRIMUS, over and out.
